Who are "mandatory reporters" and who are "confidential resources"?
Almost all employees are mandatory reporters
Most university employees are required to report certain types of information to university authorities, such as sexual harassment and violations of the university’s anti-discrimination policy. The Office of Compliance, Ethics, and Equal Opportunity (CEEO) offers this guide to reporting sexual misconduct, including stalking, dating, and domestic violence. For more information, see the university policy on prohibited discrimination and harassment (Article 11), which describes reporting requirements for UNM employees in supervisory roles.
Who are confidential resources?
A “Confidential Resource” is a university employee who has permission to keep whatever you say private and not report it to university authorities. Confidential Resources maintain no identifiable records and provide only de-identified information to university officials.
The following offices contain Confidential Resources:
- The Women's Resource Center (WRC) and the LGBTQ Resource Center
- Ombuds Services for Staff and Ombuds and Dispute Resolution Services for Faculty
- Counseling, Assistance & Referral Services (CARS)
- Community resources such as the Central NM Rape Crisis Center
Exception: All university employees, including Confidential Resources, are required to report to university authorities any situation that threatens “imminent harm” to you and/or others.
Please keep in mind that UNM email communications are not confidential.
